Merry and Bright: 4 Easy, DIY Holiday Hairstyles!

Ugly Christmas Sweater White Elephant Party Hair

My favorite thing about the holidays besides the cookies and hot buttered rum are the celebrations! Get-togethers with friends and family, work parties, New Year's Eve events - there are so many opportunities to be festive! I love the chance to pull out something a little sparkly and a little more dressed up. Today, I want to inspire you with some styles that you can do yourself that will take your holiday style to the next level with almost no effort at all!

Each style below costs less than $20 to create (most were under $10) and the thing that makes it so easy is the use of accessories. If you've followed me for any length on time on Instagram, you know I'm all about easy, low-maintenance hair. Accessories give your hair sparkle and the illusion of effort and care (even if you did almost nothing at all!)

Truth Serum GO Air Dry Cream

The Tiny Hair Workshop product I used to style my hair with!

The second thing you should know about these styles is that my hair was air-dried prior to styling, and NO HEAT TOOLS were used to create these looks! The clincher - only one product was used in my hair - Tiny Hair Workshop's AirWaves. It's perfect for lazy girls like me, or anyone who has wavy to curly hair that they're sick of fighting against. It's not available for purchase yet, but I am hoping to launch in early 2019. I would love if you signed up for my mailing list to find out when it becomes available, or follow me on Instagram or Facebook! Ok, on to the holiday hair!

These kind of get-togethers are meant to be silly and boisterous, and this is the perfect time to "let your hair down"! (womp womp😜) When everyone else is barely showing up with an ugly sweater and maybe a Santa hat, you will be the holiday tree topper with this easy, 3-minute style!

The tree and bows are hair clips from Claire's, and my secret is to slide the barrette underneath your hair so the clip doesn't show and it looks like the bow is floating in your hair. If you can't make it to Claire's, you could go to a craft store and buy mini Christmas decorations and hot glue them to a barrette or a headband. Super easy, fun and festive!

Winter Wonderland

Winter Wonderland Hairstyle

There is something so pretty about wearing white in the winter. It feels bright and beautiful. I love a puffy off-white or cream colored winter jacket or vest with a matching scarf. I think this look would be perfect for a trip to the ice skating rink, out for caroling with friends, Christmas Eve, or a holiday date for hot chocolate!

The secret here? I used what would likely equate to wedding hair accessories! The hair comb is adorned with shimmering crystals, and I found little pearls to accentuate the look. I purchased both from Claire's, but you can find these types of hair clips at most beauty supply stores. The clip could be placed a number of different ways - at the top of hair that has been pinned up, or pushed even further back to wear the hair more to the side. I chose a clip that was larger to accentuate my big hair, but if your style is a little more conservative or if you don't have as much hair, you could find a clip with crystals with a smaller profile. The pearls have a whirly wire screw on the bottom that you literally just screw into the hair. This works best on hair that has grip (not straight or silky hair types), so you may need to use hairspray or tease the hair to give the screws something to work against.

The Lazy Girl's Fancy Pony (best for longer hair)

Fancy Holiday Ponytail

Two things:

1) A ponytail can be fancy and beautiful with very little effort.

2) My hair is not really right for this style, so excuse my stumpy pony!

I love a beautiful ponytail. It's the essence of ease and simplicity. When we put a smidge more effort into the style, it becomes a fashion statement instead of a "I just had to get this mop out of my face" lament.

In this look, I elevated the ponytail two ways - I gave myself a side pony, and I used my new favorite accessory - the Pony-O. My hair wasn't really long enough to do a great side pony, so I used bobby pins to pin loose bits away in the back. I also let a side tendril down on the opposite side for an undone look. "Undone" can border on looking messy, but if the rest of your look (clothes/makeup) is on point, then it will all come together.

The biggest reason I like the Pony-O is because it makes your ponytail look thicker and fuller. Go to their website to see the before and after pics. I think you'll agree, this little invention makes everyone's ponytail look a million times better. I don't know about you, but my ultimate goal is to look great and do nothing in the process (hence why I am making an air dry cream - so we can all look amazing and be lazy and happy.) I should also add that I separately purchased Pony-O's Rose Gold Bling Ring, which goes around the Pony-O holder and really adds a unique element to your style.

My dream is to get invited to a big fancy gala where I will be forced to use Rent The Runway to get an amazing dress and then likely embarrass myself by drinking too much champagne and then find myself drunk crying in the men's bathroom. Until then, my best chances for getting super fancy-pants are for holiday work parties or potentially New Year's Eve!

This look was so simple to create and took under 5 minutes. The trick is to buy a hairclip that looks fancy and unique, and the best place to find something like that is Etsy! I did a search for "vintage hair clip" because nothing says unique and beautiful like something vintage. I'm not sure if this clip is truly vintage, but it stands out and makes you look at my hair almost more than my dress.

Much like the side pony above, I think there's something so pretty and eye-catching about a sideswept style. I simply used the clip to pin up a portion of my hair, then used bobby pins to keep my hair tucked to the side. That's it! You could modify this style by using a smaller vintage-style hair clip over one ear if your hair is short or if you just want a little bit of interest. It's important to choose the right earrings to complement the clip and your outfit but not compete with your hair accessory.

No matter what you do with your hair this holiday season, I hope you find the time to be present with yourself and your loved ones. With these style ideas, you should have plenty of time for fun while still looking amazing!
